Adhesive Capsulitis

Adhesive capsulitis or ‘frozen shoulder’, is caused by swelling and inflammation within the tissues that surround and lubricate the shoulder joint.

This then leads to the formation of painful adhesions that prevent the shoulder from moving properly.

Adhesive capsulitis is a chronic condition, which means that it begins slowly and becomes progressively worse over time.

The following symptoms are associated with this condition:

  • Severe pain and stiffness into the affected shoulder.
  • Difficulty raising the arm above 90 degrees.
  • Pain side lying, making sleeping difficult.
  • Muscle wasting at the top of the arm and shoulder.

Although painful, adhesive capsulitis can be managed with conservative care and gentle mobilisation exercises.

Our Adhesive Capsulitis treatment information is a comprehensive rehabilitation guide to treat the condition simply and effectively at home.
